Our vision - enhanced community prosperity
We estimate that $200 million is spent on telecommunications each year in the Ballarat
region. All of this flows out of the region. This is potential revenue that a locally-owned
and operated telco can capture and invest in:
- new telecommunications infrastructure
- collaborative business solutions
- Ballarat-specific projects.
That's what we're doing.
Community benefit flows from a strong regional economy. Our vision for Ballarat
is to use a collaborative buying group to improve the priority given to our region
by telecommunications suppliers. Attracting and retaining local business boosts
local employment, local investment and ultimately the strength of the Ballarat regional
economy.
Who we are?
Ballarat Community Enterprise Limited (ACN 111 713 065) has been established to
provide telecommunications and other services to the Ballarat region and distribute
profits to shareholders as well as local community projects.
It is locally owned and managed and operates as a franchisee of Community Developments
Australia Pty Ltd (CDA), a subsidiary of Bendigo Bank Ltd. Community Telco Australia
(CTA) is set up to manage telecommunications services. CTA has supply agreements
with a number of carriers. We draw on proven operating systems and the strength
of a national buying base and wholesale supply arrangements. This means we can concentrate
on developing the products needed in the Ballarat region and building relationships
with the people who use them.
Initially we're offering telecommunications products and services, which include
all fixed and mobile voice services, internet and data services. Later we may extend
the range of products we offer.
Investing in the Community
Ballarat Community Enterprise is owned by the Ballarat community because the Directors
believed that everybody living in Ballarat should have the opportunity to invest
in a community focused asset. This philosophy mirrors the strategy adopted by the
Bendigo Community Banks and community ownership has been an important part of the
success of this initiative.
